The Art and Science of Interface and Interaction Design
Springer; 1 edition (September 1, 2008) PDF | 190 pages | English | 22.5mb(rar) The Art and Science of Interface and Interaction Design/by Christa Sommerer (Editor), Lakhmi C. Jain (Editor), Laurent Mignonneau (Editor) Description Artists and creators in interactive art and interaction design have long been conducting research on human-machine interaction. Through artistic, conceptual, social and critical projects, they have shown how interactive digital processes are essential elements for their artistic creations. Resulting prototypes have often reached beyond the art arena into areas such as mobile computing, intelligent ambiences, intelligent architecture, fashionable technologies, ubiquitous computing and pervasive gaming. Many of the early artist-developed interactive technologies have influenced new design practices, products and services of today's media society. This book brings together key theoreticians and practitioners of this field. It shows how historically relevant the issues of interaction and interface design are, as they can be analyzed not only from an engineering point of view but from a social, artistic and conceptual, and even commercial angle as well. De-interlacing: A Key Technology for Scan Rate Conversion (Advances in Image Communication)
De-interlacing: A Key Technology for Scan Rate Conversion (Advances in Image Communication) By E.B. Bellers, G. de Haan * Number Of Pages: 352 Product Description: 'To interlace or not to interlace' is a hot issue currently. Traditionally interlace has been part of the video standard as it reduces the transmission and display demands, while hardly affecting the perceived quality of the pictures. With the current explosion of new video formats due to emerging technologies as multimedia PC's, videotelephony and flat matrix display the question whether or not interlace is a relict from the past is more relevant than ever. This book provides a broad overview of advanced motion estimation and de-interlacing techniques to enable a profound scientific basis for answering the above question. An extensive evaluation of the algorithms, including many screen photographs is an imt part of the book. But also system questions, such as whether interlace is a good choice in combination with modern video compression methods (MPEG), and which currently would be the optional choice for a display format are extensively treated. The combination of scientific profoundness and completions, with the focus on practical hot issues, makes the book unique in its kind. 27- Asterix and Son
27- Asterix and Son | PDF | 13,7 Mb Asterix and Son is the twenty-seventh volume of the Asterix comic book series, created by Ren? Goscinny (stories) and Albert Uderzo (illustrations). In this story, a baby boy inexplicably appears at the porch of Asterix's house one morning. While taking care of him - a horrifying task for two single men - Asterix, along with Obelix and Dogmatix, sets out to discover who left the baby there and whose parents it belongs to, following a lead left with the baby's sheets. Curiously, they find that the Romans seem to be very interested in the child, too - and all in the interests of Marcus Junius Brutus, Caesar's adopted son. While in the village, the baby twice drinks a great deal of magic potion, after which he becomes a "terrible little monster" to every door in the neighborhood and every spy sent to capture him. Finally, Brutus takes matters into his own hands, attacking the village with his own legions and burning it to the ground, while he himself goes after the baby. He manages to kidnap him temporarily - with the help of the ever-present pirates - but soon Asterix and Obelix catch up with him and give him a taste of why they are considered the terror of the Romans. Just as the Gauls try to make Brutus reveal the truth, a few unexpected arrivals by Caesar and Cleopatra themselves resolve the child's mystery; he is none other than Ptolemy XV Caesarion (born 23 June 47 BC), the son of Julius Caesar and Cleopatra VII of Egypt. Brutus had wanted to kill him, so Cleopatra left him in the village to protect him. The story ends with the banquet on Cleopatra's royal barge where even Caesar joins in. Unlike the calculator that comes bundled with Windows, Deskcalc lets you resize the calculator, input complex expressions, convert between currencies, calculate sales tax or VAT with a single button, perform both floating point and fixed point calculations, and copy the results to the Windows clipboard. It's simple to load, save, print, modify, or export the calculator tape. Instead of stapling a curly printed tape to your accounting or tax records, you can print all of your calculations with page titles and date/time stamps, or save your calculations in spreadsheet format. These powerful features will lower your frustration level when reconciling financial records. In addition, you will save money by providing financial information to your accountant or tax preparer in an easy-to-use format. Unlike mechanical or electronic calculators, Deskcalc doesn't waste your physical desk space, use up expensive rolls of tape, require batteries or power supplies, or get lost underneath a pile of paper. Whether you're a business person who has outgrown the entry-level calculator that comes bundled with Windows, a student who needs an intuitive way to perform complex calculations, or a home user who wants to save time when preparing budgets or tax returns, Deskcalc has the tools that you need. How to Lie With Statistics
142 pages | 1993 | PDF | 5 Mb "There is terror in numbers," writes Darrell Huff in How to Lie with Statistics. And nowhere does this terror translate to blind acceptance of authority more than in the slippery world of averages, correlations, graphs, and trends. Huff sought to break through "the daze that follows the collision of statistics with the human mind" with this slim volume, first published in 1954. The book remains relevant as a wake-up call for people unaccustomed to examining the endless flow of numbers pouring from Wall Street, Madison Avenue, and everywhere else someone has an axe to grind, a point to prove, or a product to sell. "The secret language of statistics, so appealing in a fact-minded culture, is employed to sensationalize, inflate, confuse, and oversimplify," warns Huff. Although many of the examples used in the book are charmingly dated, the cautions are timeless. Statistics are rife with opportunities for misuse, from "gee-whiz graphs" that add nonexistent drama to trends, to "results" detached from their method and meaning, to statistics' ultimate bugaboo--faulty cause-and-effect reasoning. Huff's tone is tolerant and amused, but no-nonsense. Like a lecturing father, he expects you to learn something useful from the book, and start applying it every day. Never be a sucker again, he cries! Even if you can't find a source of demonstrable bias, allow yourself some degree of skepticism about the results as long as there is a possibility of bias somewhere. There always is. Read How to Lie with Statistics. Whether you encounter statistics at work, at school, or in advertising, you'll remember its simple lessons. Don't be terrorized by numbers, Huff implores. "The fact is that, despite its mathematical base, statistics is as much an art as it is a science." --Therese Littleton Links (5 Mb) Quote:http://rapidshare.com/files/139701010/How_to_Lie_With_Statistics_www.softarchive.net.rar
